oil painting.
This painting was done in honor of the awe-inspiring creation that is the Kingdom of Hawai'i. The piece was done with purely pigmented color (without the use of white paint). Originally intending to only make a simple portrait, Natalie eventually decided that the hair would morph into lava and the ancient, volcanic coastline it has formed. Natalie explains that "traditional oil painting is a kind of faithful exploration; an opportunity trust the process- including the numerous layers, the messiness, the moments that feel confusing, the many hours, days, sometimes months... in order to uncover the beauty and purpose. For me, the unexpected discoveries are often the greatest joy of the art-making process: when the Spirit moves, and the brush responds."
"Through him all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made." John 1:3
"But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind." Job 12:7-10
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands" Psalms 19:1
